Tuesday Tips! Animating a Fight Scene

Animating a fight scene? Here are some Tips!!

😻 Ensure that the energy levels of the characters match the intensity of the fight. High-energy scenes should have quick, sharp movements.

😻 The energy should flow naturally between attacks and reactions. Think about how one movement feeds into the next.

😻 Don’t be afraid to exaggerate movements to emphasize the impact and drama of the fight.

😻 Vary the speed of actions to create a rhythm. Quick bursts of action followed by slower moments can build tension and make the fight more interesting

😻 Think of the fight as a dance with beats. Every punch, kick, or dodge should fall into a rhythm that guides the viewer’s eye and keeps them engaged.

😻 Show the weight and power behind each hit.

😻 The way a character reacts to a hit is just as important as the hit itself. Show the transfer of energy through the body and how it affects balance and movement.

😻 Keep the laws of physics in mind, but don’t be afraid to bend them slightly for dramatic effect. Just ensure that the exaggerations feel intentional and consistent within the world you’re animating.

😻 Consider the camera angles and movements. Dynamic camera work can enhance the action.

😻 Let the personalities of the characters shine through in their fighting styles. A brash, aggressive character will move differently from a calm, calculated one.

The shot above is from one of our students who completed a mentorship at Lupin House.

This shot was not part of his mentorship, just a shot he is working on afterward to keep improving. Once you complete a mentorship, you're in our community and have access to our peer reviews, where our mentors sometimes offer free critiques. This one was from Steven J.

If you watch the above animation passes you will see the difference between these two passes is huge, and this is the difference ONE quick review can make.

Imagine spending 6 to 12 weeks with a mentor dedicated to pushing you, and helping you to reach your full potential.

If you are ready to work with one of our mentors on your next shot, you can apply below :)

As a bonus discount to our subscribers we are offering $100 discount to the first 3 students.

* If you sign up with a friend, you both save $100 in addition to this bonus, meaning you will each save $200 off your mentorship.

Seats are limited to 5 per class, however we have some space opening starting next month! :)

See you there!!
